Tracey Blake: From Davenport, Iowa to the Minneapolis Sound.
Tracey Blake was a musical prodigy in Davenport, Iowa, where he performed with his uncle’s Gospel quartet from a very young age. As a child he was inspired by the music of Prince. Upon graduating from high school Blake moved to Minneapolis to pursue a career in music. He quickly made a name for himself, performing with local legends Westside, before eventually forming his own rock trio, The Tracey Blake Project.
Matt Fink (The Dr.) of Prince’s band The Revolution requested Tracey’s presence in his Prince cover band The Purple Experience, as a lead guitarist, in 2011. The band is widely considered to be the best Prince cover band the world over. Blake has also performed with Prince’s New Power Generation legends Sonny Thompson (bass) and Michael Bland (drums) in the Sons of the Almighty.
In 2016 Tracey went into the studio and produced and recorded his own authentic Minneapolis Sound cd, “Get Up,” paying homage to Prince and the Minneapolis Sound.
James “Popeye” Greer, longtime operations manager of Flyte Tyme productions provided valuable insight. Since then, Blake has been asked to perform music from his cds at annual celebrations honoring Prince’s legacy.
Tracey Blake’s music blends the Minneapolis sound with Nashville country, reflecting his belief in individual rights and freedoms.
With the new LP Standing In Line Tracey Blake brings to the forefront music that is both timeless, and thought provoking to our Representative Republic. From Nashville songwriting greats such as Ashley Gorley, Trevor Rosen, Shane McAnally and Shane Minor Blake’s self-produced album delivers marvelously three songs: “ One For Jack”, “The Borderline Song", and the Bluesy “Leave With Me”.
